The term ´Office Politics´ has no doubt existed since the inception of the business office. Functioning in a political environment is always challenging. The workplace, like the political landscape, is full of land mines in the form of individuals whom all possess varying beliefs, biases, desires, etc. As such, successful navigation of the workplace may well require a certain degree of political skill. 

The most common Office Politics problem involves the perceived bias of one co-worker toward another. Often, it is the office rumor-mill which is causing the perception problem. For example, you might believe that a co-worker is informing the boss of things which are inaccurate or untrue about your job performance. The question in such an instance is how to quell the mis-information. 

As with so many workplace problems, the communication question is the essential issue to be dealt with. When unfair ideas are circulating in the workplace, the choice of when/ how/where to communicate is crucial to solving the problem. 

A strategy is essential. It should incorporate careful consideration of the relevant supervisor's attitudes, and as well the source of the mis-information and its substance. Often a direct approach is best.  A written communication may well be preferable to a verbal one.
